How to layer necklaces properly

The rule is difference. Two or three chains at clearly separated lengths — roughly 40cm, 45cm and 50cm — give the eye somewhere to travel. Chains at similar lengths tangle and read as a mistake.

Keep to one metal tone. Let only one chain carry a pendant, and make the others plain. Vary the chain weight rather than the colour: a fine cable chain with a chunkier paperclip works, two identical chains don't. And if one piece is already a statement, wear it alone — layering is for delicate things.

Necklace lengths explained

A choker sits at 35–40cm, tight at the throat. A princess length at 42–48cm falls just below the collarbone and suits almost every neckline. A matinee at 50–60cm sits at the chest, good over kurtas and high necks. Most pendants sold online are princess length by default.
